Sarfraz Ahmed vowed to lead the national side with his personal performance as the skipper aims to promote himself up in the batting order in the upcoming edition of the World Cup– slated to start from May 30 in England and Wales.
While talking exclusively in ARY News’ show ‘Sports Room’ Sarfraz assured that his performance will make a difference this time around as it is the only thing which gives confidence to the entire team.
“You will see Sarfraz Ahmed batting at top of the order. I will try to finalize a spot for me and will bat on it in the upcoming mega event,” said Sarfraz.
The wicket-keeper batsman said that the rest has worked for him and in fact, all of their frontline players are fresh now and looking forward to giving their best in teh biggest tournament of the cricketing world which is just a month away. “Obviously, taking rest before an all-important event will benefit us as all the player will compete with full energy,” said Sarfraz who is confident to pick a strong squad who will leave for the UK on April 23.
The skipper revealed that team management knows all of their plans very well. He was quick to add that they are clear that who will be their openers and bowlers for the extravaganza.
“We have ample options to go with and we will try to go with best possible players to form a compelling bunch to compete firmly in the tournament,” he said.
To a query about carrying spin bowlers along with them to the UK, Sarfraz said that mostly the teams will be relying on fast bowlers but if there is a need of spinners then the team have quality options.
“We have ample spin options in our side. Shadab Khan is a regular leg-spinner who can be lethal for us in the event. Then there are Imad Wasim, Shoaib Malik, Mohammad Hafeez (if fit) who have the ability to take wickets,” he said.
It is pertinent to mention here that the national selection committee headed by Inzamam-ul-Haq will announce the World Cup squad on April 18 after assessing the fitness of players on April 15 and 16. Pakistan will play their opening match in the World Cup against Windies on May 31 at Trent Bridge.
