12 dead in Islamabad traffic mishap

    ISLAMABAD: At least 12 were killed and eight others injured  in a traffic accident at Islamabad Toll Plaza on Monday, ARY News reported.

    The passenger van was travelling to Rawalpindi from Sargodha when it rammed into the walls of Islamabad Toll Plaza.

    After the collision, the gas cylinder fitted in the van exploded and the vehicle caught fire. Rescue officials rushed to the scene, after being informed, and shifted the bodies and the injured to Pakistan Institute of Medical Sciences (PIMS).

    The rescue officials said that most of the passengers died of the inferno, which erupted after the accident. The sources said that over speeding was the reason behind the accident.

    Earlier, at least eight people had been killed in separate road accidents in Dadu and Karachi on March 31.

    Four people had been killed and 11 others critically injured when a passenger coach collided with a car on Indus Highway near Dadu. The passenger coach was heading to Karachi from Larkana.

    The dead bodies and injured had been shifted to Civil Hospital Dadu.

    Meanwhile, four people had been killed and three others injured when four loaded containers had collided on Indus Highway in Karak.
