Karachi: Opener Imam-ul-Haq thinks that Pakistan’s inconsistent performances in international cricket is because of “fear of failure”.

Left-handed batsman believes that to get success, it is important to play positively and also emphasized that there is a need for improvement in communication between the cricket board and its players.

“According to my assessment, our team has a fear of failure. Due to this players don’t perform consistently as they are worried about getting excluded from the team after a few poor performances. Inconsistency also results because of the communication gap between board and players,” Imam said while speaking during an Instagram live session.

He gave the example of Indian batsman Rohit Sharma who early in his career did not perform well but now is one of the great batsmen in the modern era of the game.

“It’s not like this with other teams around the world. If you look at the example of [Rohit] Sharma, he did not do well early in career but India trusted him and he became a good batsman later,” he added.

He also talked about the importance of discipline in a cricketer’s life, while citing the example of Pakistan batting legend Younis Khan. Imam further concluded that it depends on a player, how he handles the criticism but it is also important to be with positive people.
