Soul searching on election day

There is no better gift leaders can give to the nation than a package of self-confidence and self-reliance towards a better and brighter Pakistan.

People look beyond sermons and speeches from their leaders.

There is a clear distinction between a set, standard and stereotype leadership and one that leads and set positive trends for the nation.

The former banks on promises, pledges, slogans, verbosity and assertions aim at bewitching and bewildering masses.

The latter believes in practicing before preaching, endeavoring for compatibility of words and deeds and portraying an ideal image of a savior not a naysayer.

Whoever the polling contestants and whichever the political party, national election is a test of and trial for both the leaders and followers.

While leaders may promise their hearts out through a package of alluring public facilities on being elected, followers need to delve into the past as to what was promised was also delivered.

Our masses need to be insightful enough to gauge the authenticity of our leaders’ promises and pledges. This is expecting too much. Tough ask indeed.

We love and cherish our respective leaders and we vow to respect the public mandate. Imagine who an ideal leader is!

Is he/she not ideally somebody who rises over and above self, thinking, feeling and doing good for the society in letter and spirit?

Think about what an enlightened public mandate is ideally all about! Is it not mandate of the mind, heart, body and soul to distinguish between right and wrong and differentiate between critics and doers? Again a tough ask.

Is it not true captivating pre-election pledges and promises leaders make tend to be overshadowed soon by the so many pressing and burgeoning priorities and pressures they confront home and abroad.

Does it make sense masses, while relishing their respective leaders, become acclimatized with vital self-help to stand on their own feet?

There is no better gift leaders can give to the nation than a package of self-confidence and self-reliance towards a better and brighter Pakistan.
